“SIL is the America’s Cup of logistics”
Pere Navarro and Blanca Sorigué, president and general director of SIL present this new edition.
SIL, the Leading Trade Fair for Logistics, Transport, intralogistics and Supply Chain in Southern Europe, returns to Barcelona in 2023, with more than 650 exhibiting companies and a total of 80 countries from all over the world. This year is more special than ever, as it is 25 years since its premiere in 1998. At the moment there are already more participants (14,000) than last year at the same time -one week earlier-, and many more are expected to register in the coming days “from experience we know that many register a few days before the event, the days before are key,” explains Blanca Sorigué, general manager of SIL.
With 40% of international participants, SIL 2023 is expected to generate an economic impact in the city of Barcelona of 50 million euros. Pere Navarro, president of SIL, explained today at the presentation of the event to the media that “the real impact goes beyond the tangible, there are a number of benefits that are impossible to calculate and that give added value to SIL”. Navarro insists on how important it is for the sector to have a time of the year to meet, draw new lines of business, make new connections and learn about the latest developments in logistics and transport from the best exhibitors. For this reason, he wanted to compare SIL with the great soccer competition “SIL is the America’s Cup of logistics”.
Inauguration and night party
The inauguration of SIL 2023 will be held in Hall 8 of the Montjuic-Plaza España exhibition center at Fira de Barcelona on Wednesday, June 7 at 10 a.m., and will be presided over by Raquel Sánchez, Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Roger Torrent, Minister of Business and Employment, and Janet Sanz, acting Deputy Mayor. As every year, the fair will feature an awards ceremony for the best innovations to be held on Thursday 8 at 11:45 am at the stand of the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona.
On the other hand, La Nit de la Logística will take place on Tuesday, June 6 at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and will be presided over by His Majesty King Felipe VI, who will present awards to outstanding professionals in the sector.
Five simultaneous congresses at SIL
One of the highlights of this year’s edition is that it coincides simultaneously with the celebration of five international congresses: The 39th edition of the ALACAT Congress (The Federation of National Associations of Freight Forwarders and International Logistics Operators of Latin America and the Caribbean), the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) (the largest international entity in the supply chain sector), also EUROLOG, the annual Congress of the ELA (European Logistics Association), and the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Logistics and Transport Week (MedaLogistics Week) will also take place during SIL, on June 8 and 9, 2023, along with SIL Knowledge.
Euskadi, SIL’s guest autonomous community
For this 25th edition, Euskadi has been the guest autonomous community, this designation will allow the region to showcase its position as a strategic logistics node of the European Atlantic Axis, recognized as such by the European Union for its role in the Atlantic Corridor.
